Veteran Utility Employee Named 2018 City Employee of the First Quarter
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - It was a close race, just 10 votes separated the winner and the runner up. In the end, Utilities Treatment Work Coordinator Larry Gonzalez walked away victorious.
Being named the 2018 City Employee of the First Quarter came as a complete surprise to Gonzalez.
“I didn’t know I was doing something special. I thought only my mother thought I was special,” said Gonzalez, with a big smile on his face.
Gonzalez’ mother, sister and co-workers cheered as he received the recognition recently from City Manager Margie C. Rose.
Currently, Gonzalez oversees two wastewater treatment plants simultaneously and is responsible for meeting and exceeding numerous federal, state and local regulatory requirements at both plants. He is also instrumental in the development of utilities treatment professionals, as well as leading the department’s public education programs.
Gonzalez has worked for the City of Corpus Christi for 26 years.
IT Support Analyst Jeff Latham received honorable mention. Other nominees included Parks and Recreation Administration Assistant Catalina Rodriguez and Maintenance of Lines Application Specialist Carol Valdez.
IT Business Analyst Cynthia Perez was named Volunteer of the First Quarter.
The City Manager congratulated the nominees and called on all employees to help her take the city to the next level.
