Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Newly Installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Council members and citizens are invited to join staff to learn more about the newly installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) on Ocean Drive at the intersection with Del Mar Boulevard.

The new pedestrian traffic signal will be similar to the crosswalk on Staples Street near City Hall and will enhance pedestrian safety and provide safer access from the nearby neighborhoods across Ocean Drive to the park. Improvements for the PHB project include installation of foundations, signal poles, mast arms, signal heads and beacons, audio and visual features, and a controller cabinet. The PHB signal works like any other push-button activated pedestrian device. When activated, a red signal will stop traffic to pedestrians to cross safely. The PHB traffic signal installation is a joint City/TXDOT/CCMPO participation project. The City has launched an audio and visual campaign to inform the public about the features that are included with the PHB signal. This campaign can be viewed at: https://www.cctexas.com/services/streets-and-transportation/pedestrian-hybrid-beacon.

The grand opening will be held Friday, July 12, 2019, near Cole Park, at the intersection of Del Mar Boulevard and Ocean Drive at 6:00 p.m. During the ribbon-cutting, a brief description of the project will be presented. City Staff will be available to answer any questions. Attendants are invited to stay after the ribbon-cutting for the Bay Jammin’ Cinema Series Cole Park Amphitheater.
