City to Conduct Hazmat Emergency Response Drill at Water Treatment Plant
Residents May See Green and Yellow-Colored Smoke
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi will conduct a hazardous material drill at the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant at 13101 Leopard Street on Friday, May 24. First responders will participate in the simulated incident, which will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The drill is part of the annual Union Pacific - Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) Railcar Emergency Response Training hosted by the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
During the drill, northwest Corpus Christi residents may notice small amounts of green and yellow-colored smoke coming from the railcars. This is a simulation for training purposes.
There will also be an increased presence of emergency vehicles. The training exercise is not expected to impact traffic, and no community involvement is necessary.
