Council Approves License Agreement with City of CC SSN-705 Submarine Memorial, Inc.
“USS City of Corpus Christi” Submarine Sail to be Installed at Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – During today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council approved a resolution to authorize a License Agreement with the City of CC SSN-705 Submarine Memorial, Inc. for the placement and maintenance of the "USS City of Corpus Christi” Submarine Sail at Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park (SVMP), located at 222 S. Shoreline Drive.
The City of CC SSN-705 Submarine Memorial, Inc. will donate a decommissioned submarine sail to the City as a memorial and tribute to the submariners who served her. The CC SSN-705 will procure the Sail from the United States Navy for display at SVMP. The estimated timeline for procurement of the sail is approximately 24 months.
The SVMP Master Plan, approved by the Mayor and City Council in March 2023, includes the Sail to be placed in the northernmost corner of the park at Cooper’s Alley & South Shoreline Boulevard.
Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park is a place of honor and reflection for visitors to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during military service. This generous donation will be a valuable addition to the park and serve to honor the brave submariners who served the nation.
