CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The United States Food and Drug Administration approved and authorized an updated COVID-19 vaccine earlier this week. The newly formulated vaccine targets the currently circulating variants, including Omicron Variant XBB.1.5. The updated COVID-19 vaccine provides better protection against severe consequences of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially severe outcomes of COVID-19 illness this fall and winter.

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District anticipates that the updated COVID-19 vaccines will be available in Fall 2023. The public will be notified when the vaccines are in stock and available for distribution.
