City Develops Alternate Route for Accessing SEA District

Three of the Four Harbor Bridge Exit Ramps Temporarily Closed

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – As of March 7, the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) has temporarily closed three southbound exits from the Harbor Bridge. Those include the exit ramps at Padre Street, Power Street, and Upper Broadway. Only the southbound exit from Twigg Street to Mesquite Street remains open.

In addition, TxDOT has converted the Padre Street frontage road from two-way traffic into a one-way street between Carancahua Street and Tancahua Street.

The Corpus Christi, Public Works Department, has developed a plan to help motorists find an alternative route at the Padre Street location using City streets to provide easier access from the uptown area to the SEA District.

The alternate route, which will include a series of turns, is as follows:

  • Motorists crossing the IH-37 past the Carancahua Street overpass will now have to turn left on Padre Street
  • From there, motorists will make a right-hand turn on Ramirez Street
  • Right-hand turn onto Waco Street
  • Left-hand turn onto West Broadway Street
  • Right-hand turn onto North Sam Rankin Street
  • And then a right-hand turn onto Brewster Street until they reach North Tancahua Street.

In addition to the alternative route, motorists can follow the current wayfinding signs provided as part of the Harbor Bridge Project to navigate the area.

It is undetermined when the exit ramps will be reopened.
