Sunken Vessel to be Removed from the Water
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Cleanup operations were finalized at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Sunday following a vessel fire that subsequently sunk the boat. All remaining diesel fuel in the submerged vessel’s fuel tank was extracted Sunday night. There was no diesel fuel observed in the water on Monday or Tuesday. This morning, residual fuel was observed leaving a light sheen on the water. All observed fuel in the area has been contained within the boom, and absorbent pads have been deployed. Pads will continue to be replaced throughout the day to ensure all sheen is removed promptly.
The vessel owner is responsible for the removal of the boat. The City of Corpus Christi, the Coast Guard, and the General Land Office will continue monitoring the site and working with the owner to ensure the vessel is removed in a timely manner.
There are no reports of impacts on marine animals or other wildlife.
