Second Phase of Yorktown Mud Bridge Repairs to Begin January 16

Repairs to Take 70 Working Days

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – On Monday, December 12, 2022, the City initiated an emergency closure of the Yorktown Mud Bridge on the 8600 block of Yorktown Boulevard to perform repairs to a sinkhole that resulted from damage to the bridge's riprap embankment. In addition, the project included restoring twenty-two of the fifty-five pilings that support the bridge.

Last week, City Manager Peter Zanoni announced the City has a three-phase plan for reopening the Yorktown Mud Bridge.

The first phase of the plan includes restoration of the embankments along the bridge's east and west sides. The restoration is expected to be completed by next week.

Phase 2, which includes addressing the twenty-two pilings, will begin January 16 with the arrival of the City's newly hired subcontractor, Southern Road & Bridge. It is expected to last 70 working days, weather and tides permitting.

Finally, Phase 3 includes the planned construction of a replacement bridge, which will begin with early environmental clearance, utility coordination, and design bidding in 2025, one year earlier than initially planned by TxDOT.

TxDOT will fund the bridge reconstruction as part of the Highway Bridge Replacement Program.
