Council Approves Navigation Boulevard Pump Station Design Contract
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and City Council awarded a $280,000 contract to CP&Y Inc. of San Antonio, Texas, to provide an engineering report for improvements to the Navigation Pump Station. Funding for the project comes from the FY 2023 Water Capital Fund.
The pump station, located at 152 North Navigation Boulevard, consists of two 10-million-gallon ground storage tanks and a potable water pumping station. Under the current distribution system configuration, the pump station did not adequately contribute to sustaining system pressure and was taken out of service in 2018.
The anticipated primary improvements for this project include upgrading the pumping and control equipment along with potential transmission main upgrades.
The preliminary engineering report will provide recommendations on the following topics:
- Hydraulic studies to determine a new hydraulic grade line for the station
- Re-routing of supply and discharge lines to improve water quality
- Replacement of pressure/flow control valves
- Evaluation of existing pumps
- Replacement of tank isolation actuators
- Evaluate the need for on-site backup power and freeze protection
- Hydraulic model update and calibration
The design phase will begin in February 2023. For more information, media representatives can contact Senior Public Information Officer Melanie Lowry at 361-826-3837 or by email at melaniel@cctexas.com.
