City Council Approves Small Business Assistance Program Agreements

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council Members approved contracts for six small business assistance programs. Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) Internship Program, Del Mar College (DMC) Internship Program, DMC Process Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), DMC Contract Resource Center (CRC), and DMC Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

The Corpus Christi B Corporation (Type B) Board approved these programs at the November 14, 2022, board meeting. These programs provide assistance and resources to small businesses in Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas at no cost.

Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) - Offers education to entrepreneurs on how to start, grow, and succeed nationwide by providing mentoring and training to small business owners.
TAMUCC & DMC College Internship Programs- Offers exposure to students to local companies before graduation and increases local companies' access to a high-quality, educated workforce.
Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) – Offers assistance to any business interested in pursuing federal, state, or local government contracts through a wide range of services.
Contract Resource Center (CRC)- Offers one-on-one advising to better prepare and connect small businesses with larger projects.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC) – Offers technical support to businesses, advising resources, and training workshops to meet the needs of local businesses.

The Type B Corporation is funded through a 1/8 cent sales tax allocation approved by voters in 2016. These funds are used for economic development, affordable housing and street projects such as construction, maintenance, and repairs of arterial and collector streets and roads.
