Corpus Christi Police Officer Involved Shooting

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At approximately 3:07 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) officers assisted a unit with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO)  who requested backup assistance while following a stolen vehicle in the area of SPID at Staples. The vehicle eventually proceeded onto State HIGHWAY 358, traveling eastbound.

According to the NCSO, the suspect vehicle later took the Rodd Field Road exit, then turned around and began traveling westbound on SPID. A short time later, the NCSO reported the suspect crashed the vehicle in the 6100 block of SPID. Three suspects fled the vehicle and officers engaged in a foot pursuit.

A CCPD officer was shot by one of the suspects but returned fire, striking a suspect.

A 19-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside a local business but officers eventually took the suspect into custody.

A 16-year-old suspect was also taken into custody.  There are no additional suspects at this time.

CCPD confirmed the vehicle was stolen and at least one handgun was recovered from the scene.

Both the officer and suspect were transported and treated at local hospitals for their injuries. The officer sustained serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Corpus Christi Police Officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave as per department practice and policy. The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation.
