SH 357 (Saratoga) Getting New Mile-Long School Zone
New Zone Extends Between Ayers Street and Weber Street, Covers Five Schools
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – To enhance pedestrian and motorist safety, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is creating a single, comprehensive school zone on SH 357 (Saratoga Boulevard) between Ayers Street and Weber Road in Corpus Christi.
Beginning Monday, August 29, TxDOT will consolidate separate existing school zones serving five schools into a continuous mile-long school zone along this section of SH 357. The change will implement one school zone time for all the schools within those limits for the morning and afternoon hours. A map of the new school zone is attached.
In cooperation with the City of Corpus Christi, school zone flashers in the expanded zone will be activated from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The new school zone and times serve St. John Paul II High School, Bishop Garriga Middle School, Mary Carroll High School, Most Precious Blood School, and the School of Science and Technology. Message boards will alert drivers to the new school zone, and all flashers will be activated on Monday.
Motorists are urged to be aware of the expanded school zone and its extended hours and to obey the posted school zone speed limit signs.
