Photo Exhibition to Celebrate 60 Years of Sister City Friendship

Photos will Showcase Yokosuka, Japan

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi Sister City Committee is celebrating the 60th anniversary of international friendship with their Sister City of Yokosuka, Japan, with the opening of a photo exhibition.

“Yokosuka, Japan: 60 years of Sister Cities Friendship”, a photo exhibition, will be displayed at the Corpus Christi International Airport beginning Monday, July 25.

The show is part of a photography exchange between the City of Corpus Christi and Yokosuka City, Japan. Corpus Christi will display photographs courtesy of the Yokosuka Media Library, showcasing Yokosuka City. At the same time, three photographers from our area have been selected to showcase their pictures of Corpus Christi at an exhibition in Yokosuka, Japan. 

“What began as an effort to foster bonds between countries by President Eisenhower in 1956 has now become a global voice for cultural awareness, friendship, and strengthening of international ties,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “We are proud to be a Sister City with Yokosuka, Japan. Both of our cities share a strong Naval history, and we look forward to many more years of friendship.”

“Having these events is about empowering our community to lead the developing bridges in unification. Sister City has been tirelessly developing collaboratives to showcase our City of Corpus Christi,” said Attorney Melody Cooper, Chairwoman of Sister City Committee, Corpus Christi. “The photo exhibition is one of the many international cultural exchanges.”
