Citations for Stage 1 Water Restrictions to Begin Next Week; Community Urged to Conserve Water
Fines for Water Citations Could Reach $500; Enforcement will Include Nights and Weekends
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Corpus Christi Water Chief Operations Officer Michael Murphy announced that citations for violations of Stage 1 Water Restrictions begin Monday, July 25. The City of Corpus Christi has been under Stage 1 Water Restrictions since June 14.
During Stage 1 Water Restrictions, watering with an irrigation system or sprinklers is allowed once a week on residents’ trash day. On that day, no watering is permitted between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
A citation will be issued if watering outside allotted days and times is observed. The citation is a Class C misdemeanor and could result in a fine of up to $500 per violation per day.
“The drought impacting our region shows no sign of relenting,” City Manager Peter Zanoni said. “This is a serious situation, and we need everyone in the community to conserve water. The City will enforce watering rules during the week and on nights and weekends. To avoid a citation, only water on your trash day.”
To report a water violation, please dial 311. For more information on Stage 1 Water Restrictions and ways to conserve water, visit www.cctexas.com/conserve.
