I-37 Labonte Park Turnaround Closure Begins Tonight

Temporary Turnaround Closures to Move Equipment at Nueces River

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – As part of the Nueces River Bridge Reconstruction Project, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractors will temporarily close the Labonte Park turnaround under I-37 for brief durations to move cranes and equipment needed for the construction of the new bridges.

Beginning at 9:00 p.m. today, the turnaround will be closed intermittently during the day and night for the next two weeks. Flaggers will direct drivers to use an adjacent turnaround, which only has a 10-foot clearance. The bridge clearance is 12 feet, 3 inches when the existing turnaround is open.

Drivers using the taller turnaround can expect closures of 30 to 45 minutes. All drivers can expect closures of up to five minutes when equipment is crossing.

The frontage road at this location is one-way only, and drivers cannot back up and re-enter the I-37 northbound main lanes. Vehicles exceeding the 12-feet, 3-inch bridge clearance should instead use the I-37 southbound Labonte Park exit ramp.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in the project area and watch for workers and equipment.

The I-37 Nueces River Bridge Reconstruction Project is an $85 million effort to improve Interstate 37 from Redbird Lane to the U.S. Highway 77 Interchange in Nueces and San Patricio Counties. The project is expected to be completed in early 2027.
