Corpus Christi Animal Care Services

Small Fire Impacts Campus Utilities

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – During the early morning hours on Friday, February 4, 2022, a fire occurred at the Corpus Christi Animal Care Services facility. The fire began in the laundry room and spread to the food storage area causing extensive damage. Due to a quick response from CCFD and CCPD, the fire was contained to the laundry room and food storage area.   No animals were harmed. ACS staff were onsite throughout the event and a full welfare check was conducted to ensure the safety of staff and all animals at the facility.

The Animal Care Services facility will be closed to the public today, February 4, and tomorrow, February 5, due to interruptions in power and water utilities caused by the fire.

Our dedicated Animal Care staff will continue to provide care for the animals, complete foster pickups and rescue transfers, provide microchipping services and to accept and care for injured and ill animals. Unfortunately, the City will not be able to intake surrendered pets at the shelter during this time.  The City encourages pet owners seeking to surrender their pet(s) to utilize our Home to Home Program for safe rehoming. The Home-to-Home Program can be accessed at:

Foster families are always appreciated.  If you are interested in assisting the animals at the shelter by providing them a warm and loving home, please contact the City’s Live Release Division at Animal Care Services by email at to be a foster.

Animal Care Officers will continue patrols throughout the city and respond to calls for service.  Animal Care Services will work with partner agencies to house animals should the need arise during call response.
