Professional Municipal Clerks’ Week

May 2 – 8, 2021

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – In recognition of the services provided by City Secretary Rebecca Huerta, by Proclamation, the Corpus Christi City Council has designated the week of May 2 – 8, 2021, “Professional Municipal Clerks’ Week.”

The City Secretary / Municipal Clerk serves as the professional link between citizens, the City Council, and government agencies at other levels.

The Proclamation, presented to City Secretary Rebecca Huerta at today’s regular City Council meeting, honors Municipal and Deputy Clerks for continually striving to improve the administration of their duties through participation in education programs, seminars, workshops, and annual conferences of their state, province, county, and international professional organizations.

“I am proud to honor our City Clerk Rebecca Huerta for her professional experience. Her command of municipal knowledge greatly supports the work of our City Council,” Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo said.

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), which sponsors Municipal Clerks’ Week, has 14,700 members throughout the United States, Canada, and 15 other countries.

The responsibilities of the City Secretary require a thorough knowledge of law procedure, administration, and interpersonal relations, which are integral to the efficient operation of local government.

Rebecca Huerta is a Texas Registered Municipal Clerk through the Texas Municipal Clerks’ Association, a Certified Municipal Clerk through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She is an active member of the League of Women Voters-Corpus Christi chapter, the Coastal Bend Chapter of the Texas Municipal Clerks Association, and the Association of Hispanic Municipal Officers (AHMO), a Texas Municipal League affiliate group.  Mrs. Huerta has served as City Secretary since January 2014.
