Volunteers Add Mulch to Newly Planted Trees at Lincoln Park

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Community volunteers are ready to roll up their sleeves to help improve the success of the nine newly planted trees by adding mulch to each tree. The mulch will help retain the essential water needed to establish the tree roots for strong growth, prevent erosion, and inhibit weeds.
The volunteers will spread the mulch after the contractor, Olympia Landscape Development, completes the installation of the trees at Lincoln Park. Thereafter, the Parks & Recreation Department will maintain the new trees by watering weekly using a mobile water tank.
The types of trees to be planted at Lincoln Park include Live Oak, Bur Oak, Monterrey Oak, Cedar and Anacaua. These are all native to our region, so they will thrive in our South Texas climate. The benefits of adding these trees in our community go beyond beautification, they will also provide natural shade, purify the air, support wildlife, and reduce soil erosion.
This is part of the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department initiative made possible through the FY 2020 Community Enrichment Funds to plant 230 trees at six local parks. So far, trees have been planted at Lions Park and Mike Zepeda Park. Other parks set to receive this enhancement are Labonte Park, West Guth Park, and Los Encinos Park.
