“Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” Hosts Free Revive the Drive 5K This Saturday

5K and Fitness Classes Participants Receive Commemorative T-Shirt

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” is hosting Revive the Drive 5K along the scenic bayfront this Saturday, October 24, 2020. The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. and is limited to 300 participants. All fitness activities and 5K participants will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. Facial coverings are recommended for ages 10 and older. Participants will have their temperature checked at sign-in.

New this Saturday! Participants in the 5K and Fitness classes will receive a commemorative Revive the Drive t-shirt and will be entered in drawing for gift certificates and other prizes. 

Texas A&M University -Corpus Christi Islanders Women’s Beach Volleyball Team will conduct exhibition practice from 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Magee Beach to prepare for this season. The volleyball nets will remain on the beach following their practice for the public to play and enjoy. 

Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront is offering free fitness activities for all ages and skill levels. The community is invited to take advantage of the FITNESS LANE and join the Wellness Sessions.  Our community partner, H-E-B is providing fruit and water for all participants.

The FITNESS LANE is open for people to “get moving” in a safe, vehicle-free environment. No registration is required. Walk, jog, run, or bike in a designated 1.25-mile fitness lane from Cole Park to Lawrence Street! The FITNESS LANE is available every Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The fitness lane will help to reduce the overcrowding of the sidewalks and enable social distancing of at least six feet while exercising.

In coordination with Victor Betancourt of VFit Productions and the City’s Park and Recreation Department, the City will offer “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” exercise and wellness events for ages 8 and older, of all abilities, on Saturdays from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. at The Water’s Edge, 402 S. Shoreline Blvd. Check-In. HIIT Camp, Zumba and Yoga will be held at the Islanders Pavilion next to the playground. Participants are also eligible to receive give-away rewards.

The 40- to 60-minute fitness sessions:

  • Walk the Bayfront (7 – 11am): 2-mile walk along the bayfront at your own pace.
  • 5K Run/Walk (7:30 a.m. start): timed 5K (3.2 mile) run or walk from The Water’s Edge to Cole Park then turnaround; at your own pace.
  • HIIT Camp (8 – 8:40am): Fitness training, burn more calories in a shorter time, increased metabolic rate hours after exercise, reduce heart rate, blood sugar, blood pressure and overall cardiovascular endurance.
  • Yoga (9 – 9:40am): Learn how to improve physical and mental strength through a series of poses.
  • Zumba (10 – 10:40am): Aerobic fitness infused with Latin American dance moves.

Class sessions are limited to 20 participants per class. The public can register for classes and the 5K through the online registration link www.cctexas.com/safefunfit.

Measures will also be taken for appropriate physical distancing for the safety of participant. In addition, participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and water, as appropriate, for their workout.
