Nueces County Victims’ Memorial Meets Safety Certification

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Nueces County Victims’ Memorial located at Oleander Point on Cole Park has met the City’s safety certification and is now deemed safe by the City’s top building official. The Development Services Department has validated the anchoring of the angel statues and the security fencing has been removed since the statues meet the required safety certification.

On September 19, 2020, the Development Services Department conducted an inspection of the site and recommended cordoning off the statues until the memorial organizers provided an engineering safety certification to ensure compliance of building standards. The public was allowed to view the memorial but access to the statues was limited as a safety precaution.

The City’s Internal Auditor also is conducting a review of the agreement between the City and the non-profit managing the facility for administrative and procedural compliance.
