City Restricts Vehicle Access to Gulf Beaches Due to Dangerous Conditions
Hurricane Laura Storm Surge Poses Threat to Public Safety
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Mayor Joe McComb has issued an Emergency Order to restrict vehicle access to Gulf beaches due to dangerous conditions caused by Hurricane Laura as it approaches the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
This Order is effective immediately and remains in effect until Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
Earlier this afternoon, there were two separate incidences on the Gulf beaches: one rescue and one fatality. The latter involved a 24-year-old male.
Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Beach Operations crews are reporting large swells, extremely strong rip currents, and flooding of area Gulf beaches. The public is urged to take precautions by staying off area beaches to not risk injury during the storm surge. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory through Thursday evening. Beach closures have been coordinated with the Texas General Land Office.
