Air Traffic at CCIA Trending Up with Highest Numbers since 2014
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Enplanement numbers at Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA) last month were the highest recorded during any January since 2014. According to the numbers reported by the three airlines that serve CCIA, a total of 25,176 people boarded commercial planes at CCIA in January 2020, which represents a 2.3% increase over the same month the previous year.
This increase follows a busy December that saw 30,182 commercial travelers taking off from CCIA. December traffic was up 7.9% over December 2018 and represents the highest number of enplanements for any December since 2014.
“Enplanements trending up is great news for the community,” said Fred Segundo, Director of Aviation at CCIA. “The more Coastal Bend residents fly out of CCIA, the better our chances of luring additional service in the future.”
2014 was a busy year for CCIA, mostly due to the booming Eagle Ford Shale Fracking industry. When oil prices plummeted and oil production slowed, air travel out of CCIA began to slow down too. “There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about what’s happening in our economy right now,” said Segundo. “2020 is off to a great start.”
