City Manager Introduces New Director of Public Works/Streets

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Today City Manager Peter Zanoni held a news conference to formally welcome Richard Martinez to the City as the new Director of Public Works/Street Operations.

Zanoni talked about the importance of having someone with Martinez’ experience on board, as he restructures the Public Works/Streets Department. Martinez will be responsible for the City’s street and road infrastructure, sidewalks, pavement markings, traffic signal systems, street signage, debris clearance, right-of-way mowing, and transportation planning. With his appointment, the Storm Water division is moving from the Water Utilities to Public Works/Streets so all aspects of managing our right-of-way will be under one Department.

Martinez has more than 29 years of municipal government experience working with public works departments for the cities of San Antonio and Fort Worth. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Transportation and Public Works Director for the City of Fort Worth where he oversaw the Streets and Storm Water Operations as well as Traffic Management. Martinez also worked for the City of San Antonio as the Public Works Operations Manager where he was responsible for administering an annual budget of approximately $70 million dollars for street operations. He holds a bachelors degree in Business from the University of the Incarnate Word and is nearing completion of a masters degree in Business Administration.
