Retired and Senior Volunteer Program to Host Heroes’ Breakfast Honoring First Responders

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts to promote community service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil in the nation’s history with courage and heroism.

In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) with leading the annual event. CNCS partners with www.911Day.org, the nonprofit that, along with 9/11 families, began the 9/11 Day observance more than a decade ago, and engaged hundreds of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, schools, and businesses nationwide.

The anniversary of September 11, 2001 is a day to respectfully remember the lives of those lost, pay tribute to those who rose in service, and honor those who continue to serve our country today, including active-duty and reserve soldiers and their families, veterans, and first responders.

On this day, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program invites the Corpus Christi Police Department to a Heroes’ Breakfast as our volunteers give back to those who protect and serve our community daily. Breakfast will be served to CCPD officers and local veterans of our community on Tuesday, September 11, from 9:30-10:30am at the Lindale Senior Center, located at 3135 Swantner Street.

Mayor Joe McComb will briefly speak during the breakfast thanking those who continue to protect and serve our city, and how we can honor our local heroes today, tomorrow, and always.
