Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation to Host ‘Heart Your Park’ Day of Service at Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve

Promoting the Value of Volunteering at Local Parks

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department is proud to partner with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to provide volunteer opportunities at public park lands across Corpus Christi. On Saturday, September 22, residents 13 and up are invited to volunteer at the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve where they will engage in a variety of activities that will include planting a garden area to attract pollinators at the new playscape to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

“Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation is excited about the opportunity being provided by the NRPA and CITGO to engage our community in conservation. Through our efforts at the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and other nature sites, we hope to teach our residents how to best live alongside nature and wildlife,” said Preserve Manager Sara Jose. “These projects will allow local volunteers to have ownership, familiarity and buy-in for the plants in our community green spaces.”

“NRPA is proud to serve as the national leader for the ‘Heart Your Park’ Day of Service,” said NRPA Director of Conservation Lori Robertson. “Offering opportunities for volunteers to serve in their local park is another way we can help advance parks, recreation and environmental conservation efforts that enhance the quality of life for all people. It’s a win-win for park agencies and corporations.”
