Photo Opportunity on July 26 at 11:30 am
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department invites the media for a photo opportunity of its summer 2018 “Lunch’s On Us!” Program.
WHAT: The “Lunch’s On Us!” program runs from June 11–August 3. Children ages 1-18 are provided lunch and an afternoon snack—all free of charge. In 2017, this program provided 11,399 meals and 11,992 snacks to youth in our community. Registration is not required for this program.
WHO: Approximately 30 children and youth are benefiting at this program location. This year, 21 sites are serving lunches and snacks to children throughout the community.
WHERE: Oso Recreation Center, located at 1111 Bernice Drive.
WHEN: Best time for media is Thursday, July 26, from 11:30 am–12 pm
WHY: For 25 years, the City has offered this program which provides food during the summer to children and youth who rely on regular meals during the school year. Balanced, nutritious meals help promote mental development and academic learning in growing children and youth. They also reduce the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and more. The “Lunch’s On Us!” program meets a need that would otherwise go unfulfilled and provides a direct positive impact on a vulnerable population in our community. To find a meal site near you, call the Summer Food Hotline at (361) 826-3467.
