Youth with Disabilities & Special Needs Catch a Special Thrill (CAST) Fishing at Packery Channel

Space is Limited, So Register Online Now!

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – On Saturday, September 22, from 8:30am to 1pm, local children with disabilities and special needs will be paired with local volunteers for a day of fun and fishing at the Packery Channel Overlook area in Corpus Christi. The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Beach Operations and Catch a Special Thrill (CAST) Organization, along with volunteers, will be helping the kids fish.

CAST is a youth fishing program that encourages children age 6 - 18 with disabilities and special needs to come enjoy the great sport of fishing. It is a six-hour event that will consist of 50 local children, 60 volunteers, and 40 to 75 family members fishing and having fun. Pre-registration is required. Deadline to register online is August 4. Space is limited, so act quickly to secure your child’s spot.

With the help of numerous sponsors, each participating child will receive their very own fishing rod and reel, tackle box with supplies, and a t-shirt. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony.

“Everyone involved enjoys a great day fishing and learns something new from one another. This is a remarkable program and we encourage everyone to come out and take part in this event on this special day,” said Martha Lawhon, CAST event coordinator for the City of Corpus Christi Beach Operations.

The north jetty of Packery Channel will remain open to the public for fishing, so come on out. For more information about this event, please contact Management Assistant Martha Lawhon at (361) 826-3469 or via email at marthal@cctexas.com, or visit www.ccparkandrec.com (Corpus Christi Beaches).
