Platicas Musicales Welcomes Accordion Legend Chano Cadena

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Chano Cadena has not only been playing his accordion for over 60 years, but he has also been continuing the tradition of conjunto music. Cadena’s life and work will be subject of this month’s Platicas Musicales, Wednesday, May 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive.

Cadena was born in Palito Blanco, a small town south of Alice, Texas. His natural talent has won him many accolades, including a place in the Conjunto Hall of Fame in San Antonio. “Conjunto” refers to both a “musical ensemble” as well as the norteño and Tejano genres these ensembles commonly perform.

Local music historian Manuel Ayala will welcome Cadena to this month’s Platicas Musicales. Following a discussion sure to be filled with plenty of personal recollections and fascinating insights, Cadena will perform a selection of songs from his long and impressive career.
