Municipal Court Judges Take Time to Give Back

Despite a demanding schedule filled with busy dockets, the judges at Municipal Court found time to give back in a fun and creative way. Presiding Judge Gail Loeb along with Judge Young Min Burkett, Judge Jackie Del Llano Chapa and additional staff members worked together to assemble several goodie bags which will be passed out to the individuals brought in to the City Detention Center.

“It was fun working with my fellow judges on a project like this,” said Presiding Judge Gail Loeb. “We all started out as prosecutors so we understand how these individuals need these items.”

The goodie bags included necessities like individual size soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and even a washcloth. These items are distributed to homeless people who have been arrested and brought into the City Detention Center.

Executive Assistant to Presiding Judge Sandi Santana initially started the project three years ago, and employees continue to actively participate. The judges enjoy working as a team to fill the bags with essential items, many of which are donated. Despite the circumstances under which these goodie bags are distributed, the spirit of giving back remains at the center of it all.

“When people come to Municipal Court, the first thing we say is ‘how can we help you?’,” said Loeb. “With that in mind, something like this is definitely the right thing to do.”
