Appointments Announced for Planning and Development Services Departments
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – City Manager Margie C. Rose announced the appointment of Mr. Daniel McGinn as Planning Director and Ms. Nina Nixon-Méndez as Development Services Director for the City of Corpus Christi today.
Mr. McGinn is a seasoned City of Corpus Christi employee having started with the organization in 2005. He has held positions as City Planner, Project Manager, Land Development Manager, Interim Director of Development Services and Assistant Director of Planning and Environmental Strategic Initiatives. “Mr. McGinn’s contributions in infrastructure planning and land development processes will help prepare Corpus Christi for future city growth,” said City Manager Margie C. Rose. “I commend Mr. McGinn’s leadership efforts in establishing the City’s newly created Planning Department," added Ms. Rose.
Mr. McGinn has over 14 years’ experience in municipal planning and development. Aside from his career with the City of Corpus Christi, he has worked in Community and Economic Development for the City of Hudson, Ohio, Deputy Director of Development Services in Victoria, and the City of Sachse’s Director of Community Development.
Mr. McGinn is a member of several professional organizations, to include the American Planning Association, Texas APA, and the Texas Floodplain Management Association. His education includes a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Akron, a Bachelor’s of Arts in Geography from Rowan University, along with other educational accomplishments including a Leadership Development Certification through the University of Virginia, and the City’s Career Development Program.
“I want to use my experience in planning and understanding of economic development and environmental strategies to promote new development and reinvestment into the community,” said Planning Director Dan McGinn.
Ms. Nina Nixon-Méndez is an experienced administrator with over 24 years of experience in municipal development and planning. She has held multiple positions with the City of San Antonio including Planning Administrator and Planning Manager for the Planning and Community Development Department. She has also worked in the cities of Castroville, Leon Valley and Laredo.
“Ms. Nina Nixon-Méndez will bring a wealth of municipal development experience to the Development Services Department and her expertise will help implement best practices in development,” said City Manager Margie C. Rose.
Additionally, Ms. Nina Nixon-Méndez has numerous awards and honors associated with her work in development and planning including from the American Planning Association (Texas Chapter and National), International City/County Management Association, Congress on New Urbanism, Texas Historical Commission and many more.
“I am looking forward to proactively working with the development community and staff. I believe Corpus Christi is a wonderful community and hope my experience brings opportunities for best practices and improving the overall development service experience,” said Development Services Director Nina Nixon-Méndez.
“The latest director appointments will lead the way in creating a city leadership team with a depth of planning and development experience to lead the City of Corpus Christi moving forward,” added City Manager Margie C. Rose.
