Platicas Musicales Examines South Texas Music’s Unique Influences

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – South Texas music is a unique combination of the present and the past. This month’s Platicas Musicales (Music Talks) highlights “La Musica del Sur de Tejas” with roots in Tejano, rancheras and rock and roll oldies.

Local music historian Manuel Ayala will lead a discussion on how those musical styles have developed into a sound unique to our area. The presentation will also showcase various pieces of memorabilia from Mr. Ayala’s personal collection and will feature a live performance from Pueblo Band.

Platicas Musicales will take place Wednesday, January 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive. For more information, contact Managing Librarian Dorothea Castañón at (361) 826-2356 or dorotheac@cctexas.com.
