Platicas Musicales Pays Tribute to Jose Alfredo Jimenez

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The life and work of Jose Alfredo Jimenez, one of Mexico’s most influential songwriters, will be the focus of the next Platicas Musicales on Wednesday, December 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive.

Local music historian Manuel Ayala will present a discussion about Jimenez, who wrote more than a thousand rancheras, also known as traditional Mexican folk songs. “El Rey” is one of his most recognized compositions. Ayala will also present various photographs and memorabilia from his personal collection. The talk will be followed by a live performance from Abelardo Garza and Lourdes Gonzales.
