Platicas Musicales Remembers Rancheros and Royalty

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The rustic experience of spending time on a ranch will be celebrated with equal servings of food and history at this month’s Platicas Musicales (Music Talks) on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive.

Local music historian Manuel Ayala will present two discussions entitled “Alla en el Rancho Grande” (out on the big ranch) and “When Royalty Came to Texas.” The first will focus on how the tradition of the Spanish vaquero developed into the cowboy culture and influenced many country and Mexican singers and songwriters. It will also feature a cooking demonstration of typical ranch fare like pan de campo and beans and chili. The second discussion will present rare photos and memorabilia from Prince Charles’ historic visit to Armstrong Ranch in 1977.

The discussions will be followed by live music from Richard Ornelas, Carl Burrell and Jesse Rodriguez. This event is free and open to the public.
