Storm Debris Collection Schedule Update

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Solid Waste Services would like to update citizens on its storm debris collection schedule and  give some tips on the best ways to set out debris to make it easier for crews to gather.

The J.C. Elliott Transfer Station, located at Hwy 286 and Ayers Street, will resume regular hours on Thursday, September 7, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

City and contractor teams continue picking up storm debris throughout the city.

  • During a first pass, crews will pick up brush.

  • They will return to your property to collect construction material and other debris during a second pass.

  • Crews will complete both passes before moving on to a new area.

  • Once all areas have been passed twice, there will be an additional citywide sweep.

As contractors work through the area, they will initially collect only brush.

  • Brush must be kept 100% clean because it will be ground into mulch.

  • Bags of brush and yard waste, when mixed with clean brush, pose an issue and cannot go in the grinder.

  • Please do NOT stack bags and clean brush in the same pile. Also, do NOT mix bags of household garbage with brush.

  • Garbage should be placed in green carts or brought to the J.C. Elliott Transfer Station.

  • Pickup crews will not open bags to sort out its content.

After collecting brush, crews will go through the same area again and pick up other debris and bulky items (construction material, fencing, etc.)

  • Bagged yard waste will be picked up at that time.

  • Residents are reminded to separate items into three piles (loose brush & vegetation, bagged yard waste and debris such as fence materials and lumber, and White Goods/Appliances) in order to keep routes running smoothly.

  • In addition, residents are urged to keep the streets clear when crews are picking up in their area. In some cases, workers have been unable to access areas due to the number of cars in the street. Some vehicles have blocked access to brush and debris, making it impossible to collect.

Missed Recycling

For residents whose recycling was missed on Friday, August 25, 2017, due to the storm, you will be allowed to place extra bags with recyclables next to the blue cart for this Friday’s collection, September 8, 2017. If possible, placed in a clear trash bag next to the blue cart.

The following events will be suspended until further notice:

  • Glass Recycling scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2901 Ayers Street (across from Del Mar College) has been canceled. The event will be rescheduled when storm recovery is completed. Residents are encouraged to bring their glass to the J.C. Elliott Transfer Station located at Hwy 286 and Ayers Street.

  • Padre Island Homeowners Association’s Litter Critter, scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2017, will be suspended until further notice.
