Platicas Musicales Spotlights Young and Upcoming Musicians
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The start of summer and a celebration of young talent will be the focus of the next Platicas Musicales (Music Talks), Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive.
Local music scholar and historian Manuel Ayala will lead an informative and entertaining discussion entitled “Musica Juventud (Music of the Young People): Musical Guitars, Accordion and Songs of Summer,” which will present a detailed history of various musical instruments and their role in shaping Mexico’s cultural identity.
Ayala’s talk will be followed by a special live musical performance. Moody High School students will take the stage to perform traditional songs of summer. The quartet of guitarists includes Miguel Salcedo, Ronaldo Quiroz, Jacob Castañón and Jose Aguirre. Accordionist Cecilia Aguirre and vocalist Solange Vanessa Moina Vallejo will accompany the group.
