Platicas Musicales Celebrates the Legacy of Pedro Infante

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The life and legacy of iconic Mexican actor and singer Pedro Infante will be the subject of the next Platicas Musicales (Music Talks), Tuesday, April 25, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Wednesday, April 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Ben F. McDonald Library, 4044 Greenwood Drive.

Local music scholar and historian Manuel Ayala will lead a history-packed discussion entitled “Si Yo Fuera Pedro Infante: Remembering the Iconic Charro,” which will feature details of Infante’s background, contributions and influence. In addition to recording more than 300 songs, Infante also starred in over 60 movies. He was one of Mexican cinema’s first screen idols and his success as a singer only widened his popularity.

This edition of Platicas Musicales will take place over two days. On Tuesday, April 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., there will be a special exhibit from the Ayala Archives featuring Pedro Infante records, magazines, photos, posters, cancioneros and other memorabilia. On Wednesday, April 26, the exhibit will continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed at 6:00 p.m. by Ayala’s discussion of Infante’s life and career which will culminate with a live musical performance from Abelardo Garza and Lourdes Gonzales.
