Platicas Musicales Series Celebrates the Song of the Woman

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The creation of great music is not just a man’s job. Some of the most passionate voices in Mexican music belong to an impressive group of female artists. In celebration of Women’s History Month, Le Canta a la Mujer (Sing to the Woman) will be the featured topic at this month’s Platicas Musicales (Music Talks) Library Series Wednesday, March 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ben F. McDonald Public Library at 4044 Greenwood Drive.

Local music historian Manuel Ayala will facilitate a discussion of the influence and inspiration of women on the creation of Mexican music. His talk will also feature rare photographs and memorabilia which will help tell the story of how women emerged from inspiring songs to eventually performing them.

Le Canta a la Mujer will culminate with live musical performances from Ernesto Cadena, Jr. y su Conjunto Impulso. Additionally, two local female high school students will perform. One will sing in the Vallenato style, while the other will showcase her skills as an accordionist.
