Virtual and In-Person Public Comment

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi will hold a Redistricting Community Input General Session on Tuesday, March 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (or sooner if all citizens signed up for public comment have spoken), in City Council Chambers. Virtual and in-person public comments will be solicited at this session regarding redistricting in any Council district. At the conclusion of the Community Input Session, the City Council will conduct a redistricting wrap-up session to consider all public comments received, including citizen-initiated maps. The Council may also consider changes to the draft redistricting map (Plan B map).

To register online for the Community Input Session, visit www.cctexas.com/redistrictingevents.

Online registration for public comment will close at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8. Citizens wishing to make virtual public comments must be logged on between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. using the link that will be emailed to them after they register electronically.

Redistricting is the process of drawing the lines of districts from which council members are elected. It ensures that each district has roughly an equal number of people. It is required by law, and it takes place every ten years after the Census. Redistricting is important because it impacts how neighborhoods and communities will be represented.

The Corpus Christi City Council currently has five single-member districts, three at-large members, and one mayor elected at-large.

To learn more about the 2022 redistricting process, citizens can go to the City’s Redistricting webpage at www.cctexas.com/redistricting to view the resolution adopting criteria for use in the redistricting process, view current and proposed maps as they become available, leave a public comment or see a schedule of meetings.
