O.S.O. Guardians Summer Youth Program

Weekly Hands-On Nature Camps All Summer. Register Online Today!

The Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center is preparing to offer its popular O.S.O. Guardians Summer Youth Program! Youth ages 6-15 will Observe Science Outdoors (O.S.O.) as they explore the trails and participate in interactive hands-on activities and exploration. Science is fascinating in real life and in real time. Join us.

This program will run from June 12 through August 11, 9am-noon, Monday-Friday, with FREE transportation to extended recreation activities available at nearby Oso Recreation Center. Each week, the guardians will take a field trip to exciting nature spaces within the Coastal Bend. Campers will receive a water bottle, t-shirt and nature journal at the beginning of each week.

REGISTRATION is available now until two weeks before each camp at www.ccparkandrec.com (click ‘Register Online’). The cost for each camp is $125 per child per week. Maximum of 20 children per camp. There are a limited number of scholarships available. Don’t wait, register early!

O.S.O. Guardians Summer 2017 Weekly Camp Schedule:

 

These weekly camps are offered for children ages 6-7, 8-10 and 11-15 as follows:

“I Spy Wildlife!” Camps: June 12-16 for ages 6-7; June 19-23 for ages 8-10; and June 26-30 for ages 11-15. Where are the wild things? During this camp we will focus on the variety of organisms that live in our local wetlands. Youth will get a chance to touch, smell, see and hear (no tasting!) plants, insects, mammals, fish, and other animals that are found within the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve. The field trip for these camps is to Mustang Island State Park.                           

“Water, Water Everywhere” Camps: July 10-14 for ages 6-7; and July 17-21 for ages 8-10. Freshwater makes our city run. During this camp we will explore all the ways that plants and animals interact with our freshwater resources. The field trip for these camps is to the local Water Treatment Plant to see how our water use is connected to the environment.

“One Fish, Two Fish” Camps: July 24-28 for ages 6-7; July 31-August 4 for ages 8-10; and August 7-11 for ages 11-15. Smell something fishy? During this camp we will explore the fish of Oso Creek and Oso Bay. Not only will students learn fish identification and practice fishing techniques, we will also cover fishing regulations and aquarium husbandry. The field trip for these camps is to TDWP/CCA Fish Hatchery.
