New Marina Piers Coming to Lawrence Street T-Head

Project Will Also Include Water, Wastewater, and Electrical Improvements

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The first construction phase is underway to replace marina piers on the Lawrence Street T-Heads. Callan Marine Ltd., of Galveston, is the construction contractor for the $19.4 million project, which is funded through the Marina Capital and Seawall Capital Improvement Funds. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by summer 2025.

This project includes demolishing existing Docks A, B, C, and D, dredging the Marina basin near the docks, and building new concrete floating docks.

“The Marina is looking forward to the new concrete floating docks that will provide a much-needed upgrade to the boat slips," said Marina Manager Jonathan Atwood. “The new docks will change the overall aesthetic and appeal of the Marina for residents, visitors, and boaters, and keep the Marina a thriving part of downtown Corpus Christi.”

The water, wastewater, and electrical improvements to serve each dock will be conducted in two phases to minimize the impact on existing tenants. Marina activity will be ongoing during construction.

Piers A, B, C, and D were installed in 1994 and have been in place well beyond the expected 25-year service life of a wood structure in a saltwater environment.

Due to shoaling, many of the existing boat slips are unusable by deeper draft vessels, resulting in lost revenue for the Marina. Slip leasing makes up 80% of the Marina’s operating income.

The Traffic Control Plan (TCP) for the first phase of construction is now in place. The south side of the Lawrence Street T-Head is closed to through traffic through early 2025. A detailed map is attached to visually represent the road closure and traffic flow adjustments.
