CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the emergency use of Novavax, a fourth COVID-19 vaccine for adults who have yet to be vaccinated. The Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine will be administered as a two-dose series, three to eight weeks apart. The vaccine is provided at no cost and is available at all Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District vaccination clinic sites, including:

  • La Palmera Mall: Former Charming Charlie Store #1176, behind P.F. Chang's
  • Former Outlets of Corpus Christi Bay (Former Converse Store)
  • Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District

According to the CDC, 10% to 15% of people aged 18 and older have not received any dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Novavax, a protein-based vaccine, contains no genetic material and does not contain a live virus. The CDC hopes the new vaccine will motivate unvaccinated adults to get vaccinated, bringing our population closer to herd immunity.

"We hope the part of the population that did not receive the Moderna or Pfizer mRNA vaccines or the Johnson & Johnson' One and Done' vaccine will choose Novavax because the technology used to develop it has been around for 30 years," said Dr. Kim Onufrak, Clinical Director, Public Health District. "It is the same technology used to produce other vaccines, including Hepatitis, Shingles, and other viral diseases, so we hope it will put people's minds at ease."
