La Volla Creek Drainage Improvements Project Moves Forward

Land Acquisition Secured Today

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council authorized a developer participation agreement with Lands Greenwood 2018, LLC and MPM Development, LP.

The agreement is for the sale and exchange of City-owned lots on Oso Creek at Starry Circle. The transaction will allow for the City to acquire property it needs to construct a 130-acre detention pond in support of the La Volla Creek Drainage Improvements project. The property is located near La Volla Creek and the Airport Tributary.  

The La Volla Creek Drainage Improvements project will be funded in the amount of $11.7 million through federal grants to include Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).

The La Volla Creek Drainage Improvements project will address frequent flooding during heavy rainfall events in the La Molina, Los Encinos, and Las Colonias areas. Currently, the La Volla Creek drainage improvements project is in the environmental review phase by the Texas General Land Office and is nearing completion.
