Kids Catch More Than Fish at the CAST Event … The Thrill for Outdoor Adventure

Photo Opportunity on September 22 at Packery Channel

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Kids will delight in hooking their bait and casting their fishing rod with a little help from a friend this weekend. For some, this will be their first taste of this wonderful outdoor adventure!

On Saturday, September 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., local children with disabilities and special needs will be paired with local volunteers for a day of fun and fishing at the Packery Channel Overlook area in Corpus Christi. The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Beach Operations and Catch a Special Thrill (CAST) Organization, along with volunteers, will be helping the kids fish.

CAST is a youth fishing program that encourages children with disabilities and special needs to come enjoy the great sport of fishing. This event will consist of 50 local children, 60 volunteers, and 40 to 75 family members fishing and having fun.

With the help of numerous sponsors, each participating child will receive their very own fishing rod and reel, tackle box with supplies, and a t-shirt. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony.

“Everyone involved enjoys a great day fishing and learns something new from one another. This is a remarkable program and we encourage everyone to come out and take part in this event on this special day,” said Martha Lawhon, CAST event coordinator for the City of Corpus Christi Beach Operations.

The north jetty of Packery Channel will remain open to the public for fishing, so come on out. For more information about this event, please contact Management Assistant Martha Lawhon at (361) 826-3469 or via email at marthal@cctexas.com, or visit www.ccparkandrec.com (Corpus Christi Beaches).
