Harbor Bridge Project to Permanently Close Comanche Street Exit
New Access to Uptown Area from Northbound SH 286
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Beginning Saturday, August 24, the Harbor Bridge Project (HBP) will shift traffic and open a new alignment to access the Uptown Area and Leopard Street as the current exit to Comanche Street closes.
Commuters heading northbound on SH 286 to the Uptown Area will follow a new ramp towards Antelope and Staples Street to access Leopard Street and the area around Corpus Christi City Hall.
The change will not impact motorists traveling from northbound SH 286 to eastbound and westbound I -37.
Please see the map below highlighting the new connectivity. Portable message signs will be placed to assist commuters in navigating the new route.
The Harbor Bridge Project is scheduled to be completed in June 2025.
Traffic Impacts: In preparation for the change, the HBP will conduct a temporary one-night closure of the connector ramp for northbound SH 286 to westbound I-37 on Friday, August 23, from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24.
Motorists will be detoured to take northbound SH 286 to eastbound I-37 and make a U-turn at Chaparral Street to continue westbound on I-37.
Safety remains a top priority, and motorists are encouraged to take alternative routes to prevent delays, stay vigilant in work zones, and adhere to posted signs.
