Frontier Drive to be Reconstructed
McKinzie Road to Rockwood Street
CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council approved a $3.9 million construction contract with Jhabores Construction Company, Inc. for the reconstruction of Frontier Drive, from McKinzie Road to Rockwood Street, located in Council District 1. Funding for the project is available from the Bond 2020 Proposition A, Storm Water, Wastewater, Water Capital Funds and Gas Funds.
Frontier Drive, from McKinzie Road to Rockwood Street, is a minor residential collector roadway and is 0.4 miles in length. This street section was initially constructed in 1977, and the latest seal coat was completed in 2001. The road has since deteriorated and needs replacement. This portion of Frontier Drive provides access to Lt. Stuart J. Alexander Memorial Park and the surrounding neighborhood.
The project scope includes full-depth reconstruction of the existing two-lane roadway with a new asphalt pavement section, pavement markings, two five-foot utility strips, two four-foot sidewalks, new traffic signs, ADA-compliant pedestrian improvements, drainage improvements, street lighting, and utility upgrades.
“Today marks another exciting milestone for our City and District 1 as we continue to prioritize streets,” Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. “Expect more street repairs and reconstruction as we continue to make progress for the residents of Corpus Christi!”
Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2023 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023. For the latest information on the Frontier Road project, please visit www.cctexas.com/frontier.
