First-Ever Citywide ‘Neighborhood Fitness’ Events Begin Saturday

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, in collaboration with the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department and VFit Productions, will host its first-ever Neighborhood Fitness event on Saturday, March 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at South Pope Park, located at 3933 Fort Worth Street, 78411 (District 2).  

The first in a series of free monthly events will take place at City parks in each district to ensure equitable opportunity for all patrons to attend. The fitness events, which conclude on Saturday, July 13, aim to encourage the use of City parks and increase physical activity for all ages.  

For Saturday’s event, the Nueces County Medical Society will set up an “Ask the Doc” booth for residents to ask a pediatrician, wound care specialist, and rheumatologist health-related questions.  

Other event dates and locations are:

Saturday, April 13 - West Guth Park, 9700 Up River Road, 78410 (District 1)

Friday, May 24 - Salinas Park, 1354 Airport Road, 78405 (District 3)

Saturday, June 15 - Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center, 2466 N. Oso Parkway, 78414 (District 4)

Saturday, July 13 - Brockhampton Park, 5934 Brockhampton Street, 78414 (District 5) 

Each event will offer residents a walk/run route, yoga class, and Zumba class at no cost.  

The schedule is as follows, except for the May 24 event, which will begin at 6 p.m.:               

7:30 a.m. – Walk/Run

8:00 a.m. – Yoga (45 min.)

9:00 a.m. – Zumba (45 min.)

Participants will receive t-shirts, headlamps, flashlights, and exercise bands on a first-come, first-served basis to encourage continual physical activity at City parks.
