Engineering Design Contract for New Waterlines Approved By Council Nueces Bay Boulevard & Poth Lane
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo and the City Council approved a motion awarding an engineering contract to Hanson Professional Services, Inc. The contract is for engineering design, bid, and construction phase services for the reconstruction of approximately 16,000 LF (three miles) of 16-inch waterline that extends along Nueces Bay Boulevard and Poth Lane. Funding for this District 1 project comes from the FY 2021 Water Capital Improvement Program in the amount of $428,405.00.
The existing waterlines along Nueces Bay Boulevard and Poth Lane provide service to significant industrial customers. The cast iron pipelines that are being replaced were installed in the 1950’s through 1970’s. These pipelines have experienced frequent breaks in recent years. Those breaks can result in production interruptions for important industrial facilities as well as area residents.
The professional services contract provides for preparation of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, all applicable permits, and construction phase services for the 16” waterline replacement.
The design phase will start in February with design completion planned in August 2021. Construction is anticipated to begin December 2021 with completion in June of 2023. The total construction cost for the project is $7,000,000.
