Creating CC Displays the Fun and the Functional
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Memorable art skillfully combines form and function.
Finding the perfect balance between these two elements is what the Creating CC Art Walk Exhibition is all about. The event, part of downtown’s Art Walk on Friday, May 4, will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Bay Jewel, located at 624 North Mesquite Street. City employees will have the unique opportunity to showcase the art they create at work and at play.
City Planner Alex Dandridge, who is helping coordinate the event, enjoys creating art for both business and pleasure. His art ranges from the detailed renderings he draws for various planning projects to the more expansive oil paintings he creates when he’s not on the clock.
“Creating CC is about spotlighting the municipal art our employees have created as well as their more personal work,” Dandridge said.
Interested employees can submit up to three pieces of personal artwork as well as between one and three examples of municipal work. Dandridge said municipal work can include photographs, engineering drawings, or even renderings. Deadline for submissions is Sunday, April 22.
Creating CC was inspired by Senior City Planner Keren Costanzo’s idea of celebrating and embracing employee creativity in all forms. Dandridge is proud to be a part of this event, which is the first of its kind in the area.
“Balancing the creative and practical continues to be a learning opportunity for me,” Dandridge said. “Artistic expression is a powerful tool which can positively change perspectives.”
