CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Mayor Paulette Guajardo, City Manager Peter Zanoni, and the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) will host a news conference to announce the kickoff of the Summer 2022 TAAF Games of Texas in Corpus Christi. The news conference will take place on Wednesday, July 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the Corpus Christi Council Chambers.
The Games of Texas is the State’s annual championship for sports. Athletes and teams that win the State finals are then allowed to advance to the national competition.
This is one of the largest sporting events in Texas and is expected to bring 10,000 athletes from 17 regions across the State to compete in their sport of choice.
The City was selected to initially host the Games of Texas in the summers of 2020 and 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed in 2020 and rescheduled for 2021 and 2022.
The community partners supporting the Summer Games include Visit Corpus Christi, the Downtown Management District, the Corpus Christi Independent School District, and the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority.
