City to Host 2023 Solar Eclipse Preview Event on Friday, October 13
Free Solar Eclipse Glasses Provided
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department is excited to host a pre-solar eclipse event on Friday, October 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cole Park Pier Plaza located at 1900 Ocean Drive.
The event will be held the day before the solar eclipse to prepare everyone to view the spectacular display. It’s important to note that viewing a solar eclipse without proper eye protection is unsafe as it can cause severe and permanent damage to the eyes. The City will give away solar eclipse glasses tested and certified to view a solar eclipse while supplies last.
According to NASA calculations, on Saturday, October 14, Texas will be one of a few states in the direct path of the solar eclipse, making Corpus Christi an ideal spot to view this cosmic event. Described as a Ring of Fire, the eclipse will appear as the moon passes between the sun and Earth.
Cole Park visitors will learn about the significance of the 2023 Solar Eclipse from the Corpus Christi Astronomical Society. This organization is focused on sharing information on the night sky with anyone who has ever looked up in wonder at the marvels in our universe.
Food trucks will be on-site with various menu items available for purchase.
